Microsoft Word - Document1Because the Christmas account is one that is so familiar to us, without realizing it, we tend to gloss over words because they seem to roll off our tongue. What would happen if paused for a moment to reflect on those well- worn and somewhat overlooked words and phrases?

Treasured and pondered

“But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.” Luke 2:19

When was the last time you “treasure” or “pondered”? These are antiquated terms that aren’t used or practiced much anymore.

To “treasure” is to cherish, prize, and value. In this disposable society, when something seemingly looses its functionality we discard it quickly without thought of holding onto it as a valuable reference of what is important. To treasure something is to stir us up and to remind us what really matters. It is easy to lose sight of the important for the urgent.

To “ponder” is to contemplate, meditate, and think over. Once you’ve established what is valuable to you, mull it over and over and this act helps gain perspective to all you have and do. You can eliminate do something for “doing’s sake” and live life purposefully.

Simply put, ask yourself “what matters to me and why” and then take the time to consider if your day-to-day words and actions speak to what you value.

Take some time to “treasure” and “ponder” today.

Prayer:

“Knowing you, Jesus

Knowing you, there is no greater thing

You’re my all, you’re the best

You’re my joy, my righteousness

And I love you, Lord.” Graham Hendricks
