“This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
Luke 2:12
Following the birth of a baby it is recommended that the infant be tightly swaddled to recreate the feeling of the womb from which he came. This gives the newborn a sense of familiarity and security as he enters the stark, new world. What a jolt to this tiny system to go from being completely enveloped in an environment that meets his every need to adjusting to the cold world.
Following the birth of Jesus His parents wrapped or swaddled Him in cloths to recreate the environment from which He just came. This young couple did their very best to give this infant a sense of familiarity and security, but it was a far cry from His actual place of origin; seated in the heavenly realms at the right-hand of His Heavenly Father with the angels worshipping Him in deepest devotion.
Jesus divested Himself of His divinity to wrap Himself in humanity. Such love!
Prayer:
Thank you Lord, for Your willingness to leave Your rule and reign to be an example of selfless, sinless humanity. This day I want to wrap You in praise and adoration; for that is the environment You deserve. Amen.
