A pilgrimage is more than just a trip or vacation; it carries a deeper meaning. A pilgrimage is a sacred journey to a place with spiritual significance. Christians through the centuries have traveled to Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Rome, or other locations that hold personal spiritual importance.

If we look at the word pilgrimage from a much broader perspective, we are all on a sacred journey. Whether intentional or not, the Holy Spirit is at work within us, journeying with us. When open to his leading, He is the Guide and takes us at a tailor-made speed to deeply significant places. There is no need for a passport, travel itinerary, or packing a suitcase. The one similarity to this sacred pilgrimage is the Travel Companion.

When we have this spiritual journey mindset, any time or place can become a pilgrimage. A moment when we “build an altar” to meaningful, holy happenings along life’s way. It could happen while driving, standing in the grocery line, or rocking a baby to sleep. You may become aware you are on a sacred pilgrimage as you walk your dog, sauté onions on the stove, or wipe the tears of a child who just skinned their knee.

Every day is a pilgrimage—it’s all about awareness and living intentionally. Jesus yearns to take you on this journey. He desires you to open yourself to His amazing love. He wants you to become more aware of the extravagant dimensions of His grace and mercy for you… His beloved pilgrim.

Therefore, don’t pack a thing; no bug spray, sunblock, or compass is necessary. Only open your heart and mind, along with this resource. Pilgrimage – A Lenten journey to a sacred place takes you through the 40 days of Lent, from Ash Wednesday to Holy Saturday, excluding the Sundays. You will explore the pilgrimage of Jesus on earth through the Gospel of Matthew with corresponding Psalms that will enhance your understanding of Jesus’ life, love, and sacrifice for you.
