It is amazing what you can get used to. As I type this on my computer I am staring at the screen of an old monitor that is out of focus. I didn’t realize it until someone else pointed it out to me.
Her – “How can you work like that?”
Me – “Like what?” I responded surprisingly.
Her – “Don’t you see how blurry your screen is?”
Me – “I guess not. Now that you mention it…….it is kind of blurry.”
From then on, I haven’t been able to get past it. So it got me thinking….. What else in my life is out of focus? What else am I tolerating as acceptable, normal, or adequate?
When mediocre becomes the norm, when apathy becomes the way to be, or when complacency becomes commonplace… here are words that bring it all back into focus.
“So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.” Romans 12:1-2 (MSG)
By the way……I’m looking for a new monitor.
