There’s a lot going on in the world today. It’s always been that way, but my eyes are opened more to it now than they have been before.
As a mom of young daughters, I feel an instant protection for keeping them safe. I want to keep them safe from a lot of things. I want to keep them safe from seeing the news and all the evil, hate and unhappiness in the world. I want to keep them safe from people that want to harm them and from disaster and tragedy. I want to keep them safe from all of it. Unfortunately, there is no full proof protection with all the disasters, and evils the world has to offer. When I came across the quote below, it was an “ah-ha” moment for me, and I wanted to share it. It all goes back to Fred Rogers, also known to most of us as Mr. Rogers. Here is what he has to say,
“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say,
“Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.”
To this day, especially in times of disaster, I remember my mother’s words, and I am always comforted by realizing that there are still so many helpers—so many caring people in this world.”
“Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.” Fred Rogers
The challenge for me is to teach my daughters the same thing. To teach them to look for the helpers and whenever and wherever possible, to be a helper, too.
Such a great reminder for all of us to find the glimpses of humanity amidst the evil.
