The Eternal Current: How a Practice-Based Faith Can Save Us from Drowning – Aaron Niequist

Every church and religion have its faith traditions that are sacred.  Imagine if we embraced our faith traditions with participation. We would deepen not only our relationship with God but with our church and community.

Aaron Niequist, author of The Eternal Current beautifully articulates various spiritual practices to “enact and experience our faith in refreshingly real ways.” He uses the analogy throughout the book that we are in God’s current. As we swim (practice our faith) in that current it is bringing us to the center of the Kingdom of God.

He emphasizes throughout the book that “the Eternal Current is wider than any one Christian tradition, we are blessed by humbly learning from other Christian traditions and practices.” Please don’t miss read this, because it doesn’t mean that you are doing it wrong with your traditions, but there is beauty in being humble to other traditions and learning from those traditions.  Each tradition is just part of the bigger body of Christ.

This book is an opportunity to participate in and live out practice-based spiritual disciplines. Your Christian practices may not be the same, but to participate in a way that is God-honoring, scriptural and faith-based, we can contribute to the whole of Christ as we journey together in the Eternal Current.
