Microsoft Word - Document1Because the Christmas account is one that is so familiar to us, without realizing it, we tend to gloss over words because they seem to roll off our tongue. What would happen if paused for a moment to reflect on those well- worn and somewhat overlooked words and phrases?

Overshadowed

“The angel answered, ‘The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.’”. Luke 1:35 (NIV)

The concept of a virgin birth is hard for us to wrap our brains around. The word “overshadowed” still leaves us wondering exactly how this pure, untouched girl became impregnated with the Son of God.

“Overshadowed” should not be interpreted as some kind of mysterious surgical procedure, but something beautifully gentle and intimate. Some translations use the term “covered” or “covered in a cloud”. This conjures up a beautiful envelopment that is a loving encounter that implanted Christ within Mary.

You are covered with the Presence of the Almighty and His Word and way is growing within you. Bask in it.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, as I go through this day may I sense Christ moving within me. In those moments may I be reminded that I am enveloped by Your love and You “live, move, and have ‘Your’ being” within this earthen vessel. Amen.
